Seasonal Tips

Spring

As spring arrives, focus on early mornings or late afternoons when fish tend to be more active. Use baits that mimic emerging insects or small prey, and be prepared with a selection of light tackle.

Summer

Summer heat can affect fish activity levels, so it’s best to target the cooler parts of the day—early morning or evening. Consider using dark-colored baits in the morning and lighter colors in the evening to attract fish effectively.

Autumn

Autumn brings cooler temperatures and clearer water conditions, ideal for fishing throughout the day. Focus on mid-depth feeding areas where carp often congregate. The use of heavy tackle can be beneficial as autumnal winds increase boat movement on the lake.

Winter

Winter fishing at Lydney Boating Lake requires patience and persistence. Fish will slow down in activity, preferring deeper waters. Use natural baits like maggots or boilies to attract them. Ice conditions permitting, ice-fishing might also be an option during this season.
